History of the Lake Travis High School Cavalettes
The Cavalettes were established in 1981 with the opening of Lake Travis High School. From this beginning, many young ladies have had the privilege to call themselves a Cavalette. Through the years the Cavalettes have transformed into one of the most prestigious high school dance/drill teams in the state of Texas.
The dancers who comprise the Cavalette Drill Team are dedicated young women with high morals, standards and grades. You can see them throughout the community performing at nursing homes, schools, and collecting coats in our annual Coats for Kids marathon event. They will kick their hats upon request, and pose for the infamous Cavalette parent’s camera for hours on end. Cavalettes are known for their incredible high kick routines but also specialize in jazz, lyrical, novelty, pom, and modern.
They compete every other year in contests across the state of Texas, and on opposing years they compete in a national competition outside of Texas. You can also enjoy the Cavalettes in their annual Spring Show - which usually occurs in April or May. Young ladies can join the Cavalettes their sophomore, junior and senior years, with tryouts usually in December of each year.
If you would like to have the Cavalettes perform at a community event or at a charity function, please contact the director, Abigail (Smith) Payne, at firstname.lastname@example.org.
